etrainu vs Emprovia Academy: which suits your team?
A fair look at a ready-made course library and training built from your own incidents, policies and shift notes, so you can pick what fits.

If you run a disability, aged care or community service, you already know staff training is not optional. The harder question is what kind of tool suits your team. etrainu and Emprovia Academy both help you train staff and keep records, but they start from different places. This guide compares them fairly so you can decide which fits, or whether you need both.
We make Emprovia Academy, so we are not neutral. We have stuck to what etrainu says about itself on its own website, and where we are not sure of something, we say “check with etrainu”. Details are current as of November 2026.
The short version
etrainu is built around a large ready-made course library. You pick courses that are already written and mapped to the standards you work to. Emprovia Academy is built around your own organisation. It turns your incidents, complaints, audit findings, policies and shift notes into training, then shows you whether that training is working.
Neither approach is better in every situation. A new provider that needs a standard induction this week has different needs from an established one that keeps having the same incident.

What etrainu offers
According to etrainu’s website, it has:
- A large ready-made course library covering disability, aged care, sport and corporate training.
- Courses mapped to the NDIS Practice Standards and the aged care quality standards.
- CPD points, certificates, branded certificates, reminders and playlists.
- AI Course Authoring, which builds a course from a prompt or a document and can translate courses. It is included as one creator seat in some packages.
- Competency checklists so a supervisor can sign off practical skills, in some packages (for example Complex Care Essentials and the Pro packages).
Which of these you get depends on the package, so check the current details with etrainu before you decide.
What Emprovia Academy offers
Emprovia Academy is an automated staff training and learning management system (LMS) with a compliance focus. Everything below is live today:
- Training built from your own incidents, complaints, audit findings and documents. Personal details are removed, and you see a preview before the AI sees anything. A person approves each training, and every change is kept as a version. See how training is created and what it can be built from.
- “Tell the AI what you want”, so you can steer a draft in plain words.
- Experience Intelligence, which scans shift notes for patterns that keep happening. It checks them against your policies (goes against, not covered, or matches), flags “trained but still happening”, and shows “Needs refresh” when a policy changes.
- Narration that plays automatically, short lesson explainers, and illustration or realistic photo images.
- Practical skills sign-off, where the worker confirms or says “I need more support”, with re-assessment reminders.
- A learning dashboard (overview, course summary, compliance, expiry and refreshers, analytics), certificates with a public verify link, and one-click assignment to all your workers.
- It works with Emprovia OnSite (rosters and shift notes) or entirely on its own.
You can see more on the Academy overview and the features page.

Choose etrainu if…
- You want a big library of courses that already exist, so people can start this week.
- You want courses that are mapped to the NDIS Practice Standards or aged care quality standards without writing your own.
- CPD points matter to your staff or your professional bodies.
- You need courses translated for a multilingual team.
- Your training is mostly standard topics that are the same across providers.

Choose Emprovia Academy if…
- You want training built from what is actually happening in your organisation, such as repeated incidents, complaints and audit findings.
- You want to know whether training changed anything, not just whether it was completed. “Trained but still happening” is there for that.
- Your policies change and you need to know which training to refresh.
- You need audit evidence: who was trained on what, who approved it, which version, and when.
- You want to check practical skills in the field and let workers say when they need more support.
- You already use, or plan to use, Emprovia OnSite for rosters and shift notes.
Can you use both?
Yes, and many teams will. A ready-made library covers the standard topics every provider needs. Training built from your own events covers the things only your organisation knows: how your clients want things done, and the mistakes your team keeps making. If you can only pick one, choose based on whether your bigger gap is coverage of standard topics or change in what actually happens on shift.
A fair note
Training software does not make you compliant by itself. Whichever tool you choose, you still need good supervision, accurate records and a person who takes responsibility for the training. Features and packages change, so confirm anything that matters to you directly with each provider.

FAQ
- Is etrainu or Emprovia Academy better?
- Neither is better for everyone. etrainu suits teams that want a large ready-made, standards-mapped course library with CPD points. Emprovia Academy suits teams that want training built from their own incidents, complaints, audit findings and policies, with evidence of who was trained and who approved it.
- Does Emprovia Academy have a ready-made course library?
- Emprovia Academy is built to create training from your own documents and real events, not to offer a large catalogue of off-the-shelf courses. If you want a big ready-made library with CPD points, etrainu is designed for that.
- Can I use etrainu and Emprovia Academy together?
- Yes. Some teams use a ready-made library for standard topics and Academy for training that comes from their own incidents, policies and shift notes.
- How does Emprovia Academy protect personal details?
- Personal details are removed before the AI sees anything, and you see a preview first. A person then approves each training, and changes are kept as versions.
- Do I need Emprovia OnSite to use Emprovia Academy?
- No. Academy works on its own. If you also use Emprovia OnSite, it can draw on your rosters and shift notes.
